Barbiturate Addiction Treatment in West Palm Beach, Florida

Barbiturates are a class of prescription sedative drugs commonly used to treat seizures, insomnia, migraines, anxiety, and more. As with any prescription drug, these can be abused by users if not taken as prescribed, although these drugs are one of the most addictive substances by nature. Medical professionals today are more commonly prescribing benzodiazepines instead (although those substances are addictive as well, but not as much as barbiturates). They can be taken orally via pills or liquid, but can also be injected or snorted. These drugs, which go by generic names ending in -arbital (Amobarbital, Pentobarbital, Tuinal, Butabarbital, Aprobarbital, Phenobarbital, etc.), are also sold illegally with street names like “downers”, “barbs”, “yellow jacket”, “gorilla pills”, “phennies”, “pinks/reds/blues”, “sleepers” and more. The drug works by depressing the central nervous system and reducing the heart rate, creating feelings of relaxation and euphoria in as little as 15 minutes, but has highly dangerous and physically detrimental effects. Even a small overdose can cause a coma or death, and trying to withdraw after a dependence has been achieved can similarly have life-threatening effects. While barbiturates have historically been abused alongside alcohol and heroin, doing so increases the risk of overdose and death. In 2018, approximately 32,000 Americans aged 12 and higher reported misusing barbiturates according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), but that number is likely underreported.

What To Expect

While our mission is to see everyone struggling with an addiction to barbiturates receive treatment, our West Palm Beach barbiturate addiction treatment center is not the right fit for everyone. In order to determine if you or a loved one is a good candidate, you will have to complete a pre-admission screening. If we decide that your needs would be better served elsewhere, we will direct you to other centers that can help, but if you are accepted as a patient with us, your recovery journey will begin immediately! While you finish intake documents and assessments, attend orientation, check into housing, meet other patients and staff, and generally get accustomed to your new environment, we will design a treatment plan for you that is intended to last approximately 90 days.

The first 45 days will consist of an intense schedule of treatment, leaving little downtime and completely immersing you in the program. You will undergo medically supervised detox, attend individual counseling, participate in group therapy sessions, and more. Our team will help you identify your triggers and set long-term recovery goals. The next 45 days will be less intensive, but will still consist of therapy and putting together an immediate discharge plan as well as working towards your long-term goals. Most patients at Better Tomorrow graduate at 90 days, but if you need longer to finish the program and leave with confidence, you do have the option of being phased down to outpatient status and continuing to receive supportive care.

Finding freedom from an addiction to barbiturates isn’t easy or fast, but it is possible. Everyone at Better Tomorrow is cheering you on every step of the way! You can expect that you will find all of the encouragement and support you need to get clean and stay clean.

Do I Need This? Can I Afford This?

Misusing barbiturates can cause severe damage to your body, your finances, your relationships, your opportunities, your mental health, and more. Sometimes it can be difficult to determine when help is really needed, but remember that barbiturates are highly addictive as they are; if you cannot stop taking them without negative effects, or if you have tried to decrease your use and have been unable to do so, then it might be time to explore treatment options. Other symptoms of a barbiturate addiction include altered consciousness, coordination problems, lack of balance, nausea, slurred speech, slower heart rate, and decreased urine output. If any of those symptoms are present, call us to get help. Many individuals are under the misperception that rehab is too expensive to afford, but federal law actually requires insurance providers to offer coverage for treatment. If you have insurance, you are likely a great candidate for our West Palm Beach barbiturate addiction treatment center! Even if you do not, we may be able to help direct you. It is free to call us and verify whether or not we accept your insurance. We care about helping you overcome your addiction and live a life you love! Don’t wait until it’s too late. Call us today at (844) 989-1415.
